50, and have tattoos, are getting tattoos, or plan to later on, please set the record straight about this 'I'll regret it when I'm old' nonsense that people under 25 - mostly under 20 keep saying. I am over 50 have beautiful tattoos, plan on getting more, and if my tattoos and I get wrinkly, fine, what's the big deal? I won't be asked to the prom? I'll embarrass my shallow grandchildren who think that only pretty young people can have body art? Please, I want some positive stories to counterbalance the stereotype, that is being spread by the very young, who seem to be afraid of growing up and old.

Give some good stories!

  1. right on for you!! I'm at way over 50 tatts, and you know what? i got them for ME and only me. i dont care what others think. each and everyone of my tattoos tell a story about my life. the older they get, the more meaningful the story. thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention. i agree w/ you totally!!

  2. I'm 29 and plan on getting my first tattoo after I'm finished having childen.  My husband has a few and my mother got one for her 40th birthday 10 years ago.  I think actually few people regret tatoos if they are done tastefully and with thought.  My husband had his initials put on his arm in high school and it was poorly done and is looking to have it covered with another.  If it's something meaningful such as a tribute for example, it'd be hard to regret it.

  3. I'm 32 and got my first tatt 10 years ago, it still looks the same as it did the day I got it.  And yes there are places on the body that wrinkle more than others, so just think about the placement of it and it should last longer.  I really do not care what they look like when I am 80, because no one will be looking at me then, and I will have had them all my life, they will tell my story.

  4. i'm 26 and I love my tattoos and will be proud of them for the rest of my life. How can i regret something that traces out the stories of my experiences, you know?

with the whole "wrinkly" tattoo thing, i think it's silly. Truth is tattoo ink is getting so much better than it used to be and the ink blowing out and deforming in "old age" is becoming less and less of a problem. that's why they make touch ups anyway!!

And FURTHER more, :) i love being the "kewl parent" that's all tattoo'd and pierced. My kids love it. The world is becoming far more open minded than it used to.

  5. i went with my aunt, who was like 51 at the time, get her first tattoo...she loved it...in fact she got a second one a month later :)

  6. Wow. I'm not over 25, nor do I have any tattoos (yet) but more power to you!

It gets so old when people say "Don't do it! You'll regret it when it's all stretched and wrinkly," but in my opinion that just means they won't do it. It's your body, and you wanted the tattoos you have, and you still love them, even if you do get wrinkly, so who is to hate on you? They shouldn't care about how your tattoos look, because they don't have to live with them on their body.

  7. I'm 25 with 5 tattoos and I love them! I've been careful to always get tattoos that mean something important to me so I'm sure I'll never regret them. Who cares if they look wrinkly when I'm 80 odd, I will hardly be strutting my stuff in a bikini when I'm that age anyway, and if I am good on me!!

My mum got her first tat at 55 when she ran the London marathon, now she's talking about getting her nose pierced! My son thinks she is the coolest Nanny ever!

  8. I got my 1st ink stain at around 30, the shop that does my work said i was amongst the youngest of people that come in... and i don't see any plans for quitting getting them

  9. I am 25 and have 5 (for now) tattoos.  I have absolutely NO regrets about any of them, even the one on my hip bone that kinda got stretched out from two babies.  I still love it, who cares if its not the same as it was when I was 18?  Neither am I!  Whatever tho, my tattoos are such an integral part of me, and also the tattoo community, the serious ones, are always the coolest people around  (not the little college girls who get the 'tramp stamps' because its the latest fad!)  I've got my name tattood across my lower back, and I got it before tattoos in that area were huge, a guy I met while in Fl. for a trainer when I was in the military drew it for me.  I've already heard every joke in the book about that, lol, but, still, no regrets!!  Everyone of my tattoos has a story and was done during a big change in my life.  I was even fortunate to have been able to get one in Russia while I was there on a deployment.  I am a devoted artist and soon beginning an internship to be a tattoo artist, so I am very passionate about them.

So, nope, no regrets.  I have plans for a half sleeve on my right arm, also an interesting back piece. I don't think I will ever stop getting tattood, its as much of my personality as anything else. Good question, btw :D.

  10. I got my first tattoo at 40, I'm now over 50 and have five and plan on getting several more. My only regret is that I started so late.

  11. I am practically ancient (33 ha ha ha), and a heavily tattooed female.  I have a full sleeve, both calves on the outside, one thigh, my abdomen, and upper chest done.  The sleeve is a work in progress.  I love my tattoos.  They define me.  My only regret is that one of them (the second one I ever got) is crappy quality!!  If it was the same design, but well done, I would really have no regrets.

As for when you are "old"...well, I can't wait to see all these people who think they're going to look ****-hot when they're 85 with NO ink.  They're still going to be old and wrinkly!  Do you know who is going to look funny?  The people who are addicted to tanning when they're young.  They're going to look like old, saggy leather couches.

If I am lucky enough to make it to old age, I will be the hottest, most bad-assed old biddy in the home.  If my grandkids don't like it they can kiss my wrinkled, inked butt.  ;)

  12. I am 27 and don't regret any of mine (I have 4). I went with my mother to get two of them and everytime I look at them I am reminded of my wild and crazy days. I don't plan on getting anymore, but I am not ashamed or worried what others think or want to say about the ones I have. :-)

  13. My husband and I got our first tattoos when we were both over 30 (on vacation in Vegas at Hart & Huntington!).

We love them and don't know why we waited so long.  We're both successful professionals and can choose to show them or not, as we see fit.

I'm ready for a few more!
