  1. Ionic Bond: when a positively charged cation of some element bonds with a negatively charged anion of some element such as Na+ + Cl- ---> NaCl

Covelent Bond: when the molecules in a compound bond together to form a larger solid...i am a little hazy on the details but one example of this is when glucose C6H12O6 forms hydrogen bonds with itself covelent bonds have much lower melting points than ionic bonds.  Also ionic bonds are conductive while covelent bonds are not

Decomposition Reaction: When a compound breaks down without reacting to other elements.  For example, hydrogen peroxide H2O2 breaks down with light into H20 and 02 gas when in the presence of light.  Light is not an element, so basically it breaks down naturally, or decomposes

Single and Double Displacement: i am not positive as to the specifics but this has to do with the yeild that you get from a reaction.  I believe that double displacement is when two compounds exchange elements, and single displacement is when only one element is moved

  2. Combustion: The ignition of some fuel in a chemical reaction.

Diatomic: Refers to molecules with 2 atoms.

Polyatomic: Refers to molecules with many atoms.
