I live in the US but I have traveled a lot, both while I was younger and now. Americans are generally seen as arrogant. We go to other people's countries and EXPECT them to speak english. Many americans are rude while abroad, so this does not help our image. Invading places like Iraq and Afghanistan let the rest of the world think we are the big bully on the block.

They are just like the average woman/ man in the carribean, want the best for their family and friends and want to live in peace. the youth is a whole different ball game, some want to imitate the hip- hop, gang banging, irresponsible ways of some american youth young girls (schoolers) are going into pron-no and the s*x trade too.

I'm Australian but I have been to the USA 3 times for a month each time.   While I'm there I have found them to be very friendly, pleasant and hospitable.  They are always interested about your country, but their questions show the level of ignorance they have about here (and everywhere else).

I find that they don't cope so well travelling in foreign countries because they expect everything to be just like home and have no concept of things being done differently to back home.  I think that the lack of travelling at a young age and an inward focussing media help contribute to this.  The short amount of holidays that Americans get compared to everyone else in the western world doesn't help.  America is also a very money-oriented, materialistic place and young people join the rat-race early rather than taking the time out to explore the world before they settle down (which is normal in a lot of western societies).  America also has a lot of poor people who could never dream of travelling.  The other thing that really strikes me about Americans is the amount of c**p food they eat.  I find it really hard to buy decent food when I am travelling there.  No wonder it is the most obese place on the planet.  Ignorance about diet is as much a problem of as the availability of fresh food.  I guess the big corporations that run America don't make as much profit out of fresh natural foods that they can out of processed junk.
