If you live in the northeast of the U.S., on which side of your house is your porch / patio / deck located?

We are planning on building a new house and are trying to figure out the best location for these areas. Our house will have an east-west orientation to use passive solar building principles. The prevailing wind is from the west, but occasional north winds are cold. So, where are yours located and how does this work out for you?

I live in NY.  We have our enclosed (screened in) patio facing east.  If we faced it to the West it would be too hot in the afternoon to use.

i live in Erie PA, a block or two south of the lake and mine is on the north side of my house off of my kitchen and i can see the sun setting in the evening. it also helps you if you have kids you can watch over them without going in the yard and i eat dinner on my deck sometimes when its not to cold or dark or raining but overall its a great place to when you want to spend time with your family and friends for dinner or just to hang out.
