I'm curious about people's emotional, psychological and physical experiences of dealing with cold weather that is over 70% of their yearly experiences. Places with these kinds of weather are, for instance, in Iqaluit and places near or above the Arctic circle.

  1. And what do you think of people who live in temperatures above 50° Celsius.

In both cases human beings have an extraordinary capacity to adapt themselves to extreme weather condition and environments  either physically,  psychologically or emotionally.

  2. If you listen to Al Bore its like a beach now and the sun is baking.

I think you get use to it..they no no other like the People in Miami or South America..its hot as h**l all the time.

I personally like the cold....I can get cool in Winter not in summer and I just have to put on a  jacket to feel warm or come inside where its 55 or so. A good fire is cool...no pun intended....lol......

I think putting up with light 24/7 for a good while sucks.....

  3. I spent 13 months(1972 -1973) in McMurdo Antarctica (that's at the SOUTHERN end of the world).  The cold was dealt with by dressing properly (I saw it get up to 42 a few days).  The cold didn't really effect us but the darkness/daylight did.  We called it the ANTARCTIC BIG EYE.  During the spring/summer, it is daylight 24 hours a day.  The sun being up all day affected our sleep cycle.  It was nothing to see guys up at 3 a.m. down in the rec room.  During the winter, I could sleep from 11 p.m. Saturday until supper the next day, then go back to bed and sleep until it was time to get up to go to work.

By they way, no one got sick from going out in the cold.  All the germs got killed.  However, when we came up from 'the ice', we ALL got sick from something.  When I got back stateside, I spent 3 days in bed sick.
