If you look back on the last 130 years or so, aren't we kinda overdue for a major war?

well compared to the Russians we don't have much of an air force.  we have only the f-22 and the f-18 super hornet oh and the upcoming f-35  where the russians have the su 34 and su 27 and su 25 fighters and the Mig 31 mig 29 fighter planes.  Some of the American Fighter planes were developed during the Vietnam war. ( the f-14 and f-15)  One major problem with the American military is the horrible costs that they have with their weapons.  The cost of one B-2 bomber is 2.1 billion dollars.  This is just rediculious

We are in a major war, its just that the times have changed and it gets handled differently then it did back then.

WWII was the largest war known to man. battles were fought on almost every continent. Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America(the 2 battles in Alaska). Not to mention there were naval battles in every ocean except the Arctic. There were also nations on every continent(except Antarctica) that were effected by the war in some way. ex) The Germans sought refuge in some South American cities. It wasn't the longest but it was the largest scale wise.

Not really. Modern war has become very expensive, and with the US having such a big military budget compared to anybody else, it would be nuts for a potential enemy to attempt a major conventional war the way Hussein did in 1991. He did, after all, have one of the five largest military organizations in the world. So now we're into a period when we can expect a general shift to what's been called fourth generation warfare. It's much more cost-effective and pretty well the only chance for smaller groups to prevail against the superpowers.
