  1. Go to the Embassy of your Country for help. (This happened to me on vacation)

  2. Always, always, make copies of your passport, tickets and other travel bookings. Keep one copy at home with some you can reach by phone or fax. Carry at least one copy with you in your luggage, but not directly with your actual passport. Use an internationally known agency, i.e., American Express or Visa, to register your passport information and your itinerary. Also, before you lose anything, visit your country's embassy in the country you are visiting, so you'll know where to go and whom to see should you loose your ID or have it stolen. Keep your passport and other ID numbers recorded (in writing in your PDA, or in your wallet, or in your money belt ... with that information, it's easier to get replacements. Unless you're absolutely going to need your passport for admission to something, keep it locked in a safe while you are sightseeing or traveling within a country. Memorize your passport number and be able to recall other personal identification details should you need to. You should have a round trip ticket, and the airlines will have your passport info on record, so they can also help if you end up without your ID.

    Good Luck
