  1. The pinna's job is to help localize the direction where the sound is coming from. Losing one will affect this ability in a very minor way.

    Loss of the pinna does not affect the perception of loudness or pitch.


  2. people who break their eardrum are deaf.

    the structure of the ear is designed to protect the rather fragile inner ear,

    both from physical damage, and from infection.

    the 3 bones in the middle ear transmit sound.

    they're driven by the eardrum.

    it might be that sound would be able to excite your inner eardrum.

    but i've never heard of that happening.
