My boyfriend is German (and still lives in Germany.) We want to get married. I am not German (I'm from North America.) If we get married in Germany, can I then move and live there permanently? If not, will getting married there at least make moving there easier? Thank you for your help.

  1. No you can't.

Why not have him move to North America (I note you don't mention a Country), doesn't matter much, the rules in Canada and the USA are similar. I doubt he will be allowed in either.

It's no longer possible to use marriage as an excuse for immigration.

Unless either of you have skills that are in demand your chances are about nil. Neither of you brain surgeons by any chance ?

  3. Yes, but once you get married, you have to go to the immigration office and apply for permanent residence, which will eventually lead to citizenship.

And trust me, being an EU citizen has a lot of perks, like the ability to live and work visa-free anywhere in europe.
