My Girlfriend and I are moving in together but I'm moving in a month early to get things ready, Her mom is collecting from the state because she lives there and when she moves out she ask my Girlfriend to stay under her lease even though she is moving in with me. Can She so that in the state of CT?

  1. To answer your question, yes you can move your girlfriend in without putting her on the lease. You're not really supposed to do that, but the landlord may be okay with this for a month and let it slide.

But understand that if you are NOT on the lease agreement and you are 18 years old or older, you have NO legal right to occupy the apartment. So if things get worse, the landlord could legally evict anyone NOT on the lease, and there's absolutely nothing your girlfriend can do about it.

Sort of confused by what else is going on with her mom and your girlfriend and moving. Is she claiming residency in CT and still trying to collect state money based upon said residency even though she lives elsewhere? I believe that's illegal, but it's up to her if she wants to risk that kind of fraud.

  2. It sounds like Welfare Fraud of some sort. I would NOT get involved. It's a FELONY.

  3. You kinda have two questions here.  First, yes your landlord usually wants the names of everyone living there to be on the lease.  Second, if your girlfriends mom keeps her name on the lease after she moves out to keep collecting the same amount of money from the state that would be fraud, and if she was ever caught it could be a problem.
