If you never dated the person how can you be considered their rebound?

A rebound isn't somebody that the person has dated before.

"Rebound" means they're dating someone to take the misery off just breaking up with someone.

If I were to dump my boyfriend, then immediately date someone else because I need to be with someone, that person is my rebound. It doesn't matter if I have dated him or not.

A rebound person is someone that  you befriend or start some sort of relationship to help you get past the hurt you feel from your break-up or the ending of a previous relationship.  When you are over or feel better about your previous break-up you may or may not realize that this "rebound" person is right for you.  sometimes they are someone who comes into your life at a time of need and when that need is over then sometimes you both go your separate ways.  You don't have to be romantically involved to have a rebound person, although in most common scenarios it is a person someone quickly "dates" but it doesn't have to be.  I wouldn't really say that you're using a person because yes they are giving you something you need, but in return you're most likely giving them something that they need as well.  Sometimes people mistake these kinds of "friendships" as a "dating" situation when really, its just you've befriended someone got close to them because they can provide you with what you need at the time to get over what's hurting you.  If to some people that means  you're "dating" then let them think that.  The only opinion that counts is yours and this other person.  good luck!

Maybe that person feels they were being used, more so than it being a rebound.

We always get our egos bruised. But we bounce back.
