If you open an umbrella inside how long will yu have bad luck?

i got a new umbrella and i couldnt resist opening it but its dark outside and i was resisting opening it but it just flew open! also why is it bad luck? can i do something to counteract this?

Open an umbrella indoors and bad luck will "rain" on you. But why? There are two schools of thought:

The most common stems from the days when umbrellas were used mainly as protection against the sun. To open one indoors would be to insult the local sun god (especially Ra) and invite his wrath on everyone in your household.

Another theory borrows from the idea of an umbrella as a protector against the storms of life. If you were to open one in your home, the household guardian spirits might think you felt their protection was insufficient, and then they'd leave in a huff. Once again, everyone in the house is cursed.

In truth, the superstition is probably coincidental. (Someone left his umbrella opened in the hall and had a terrible day--he told his friend to keep their umbrellas shut, and it spread.)

It isn't always bad luck to open an umbrella inside. According to some, it's only considered bad if any of the following apply:

-The umbrella was a gift.

-The umbrella is black.

-The umbrella has never been used outdoors.

-There is a sick person in the house.

Other bad luck umbrella superstitions:

-Never give an umbrella as a gift.

-Never pick up an umbrella you dropped (ask someone to do it for you).

-Never place your umbrella on a table or a bed.

-If a single woman drops her umbrella, she'll never marry.

Whatever bad luck is caused by opening an umbrella inside is canceled when you close it.  Just as the bad luck caused by walking under a ladder is canceled as you come out from beneath on the other side.  It's bad luck to open an umbrella inside because you can snag things, you can hit someone in the eye.  If you manage to open it and close it again with nothing bad happening, you can relax, you dodged a bullet! 8^)

ITS NOT BAD LUCK, ITS JUST SAID AS A LESSON TYPE OF THING. IF YOU OPEN IT INSIDE YOU MIGHT POKE SOMEBODYS EYE OUT WITH ONE OF THE METAL OR PLASTIC TIPS AROUND THE UMBRELLA.

It has been scientifically proven that the simple "opening an umbrella indoors" faux pas is fairly common and shouldn't be worried about. The 'bad luck' as it is informally called only lasts for about 47 seconds... see there, your bad luck is complete!! Now don't you just feel so safe knowing the worst is over? :)

hahahaha ur gonna get bad luck!

i did the EXACT same thang happened i had my 2 day old umbrella and........well.......ur story............the nxt day my boyfriend dumped me,i lost my 10 doller note and i got acute pancreatitis (look it up)  lost the debate at skool ( i never lose debates!) and so on...

this went on for bout 3 days....i found the only way to stop it is...spit on the handel of your umbrella  and open it inside ONE more tym after that i....got a new bf (2days later) the pancreatitis finshed (that same day after i spat and opened)

and i havent lost a debate since!
