If you opted-out of direct mailings, then why do you still get credit card offers in the mail?

  1. Direct mailings has very little to do with credit card offers.  Most credit card companies make inquiries of your credit information from the 3 credit bureaus.  And once they determine your profile matches whatever they look for, they send you an invitation.

    You should contact all 3 credit bureaus and ask them to disallow credit inquiries from credit card companies.  This will stop over 90% of credit card invitations.  You may still get some through professional associations, frequent flyer clubs, alumni associations etc.

  2. opting out of direct mailing might only mean not getting paper statements or notices in the mail. the bank has several opting preferences. another is marketing preference and that includes getting product offers in the mail. you can call your bank and just specify to opt out of getting marketing offers by mail
