If you owe back taxes; do you have to negotiate with the State also? I know you do with federal how does it work with the State do you negotiate penalties and interest with them also any help would be appreciated thanks

  1. If you owe the state, you can try to negotiate with them - most would at least let you set up a payment plan.

    probably the easiest form of settling back taxes is to submit an installment agreement.  Good luck.

  3. Both the state and the federal government will try to work out a payment plan with you.  Neither is required to accept less than the full amount you owe.
