Its been more than a year. The person wasnt able to file for the following year. So they probably owe more money. Her job was not taking out the appropirate taxes, even after she filled out 3 applications to change the tax info so that tax can be deducted. She wants to pay the money owed but doesnt have any source of income. What can she do? are there any payment plans? and what is there contact number for the Bronx, NY?

  1. If she doesn't have any income, the IRS can place her in a deferred collection status until such time as she can pay. She will need to file any required returns before she can be placed in that status, however. Tell her to call the number on the latest collection notice. If she doesn't have that, have her call 1-800-829-1040 and follow the prompts. Her call will be routed to the correct area once she enters in her SSN.

  2. Have her contact the IRS and set up a payment plan.  They do it all the time.

  3. She'll have to file the return that's missing.  After she does that she can set up a payment plan.

  4. Yes, contact the IRS, you can make paments, hurry because the penalties and interest add up really fast. They can't help or stop the madness unless she gets on it fast.

  5. "Wasn't able to file"?  She needs to quit blaming the employer and take responsibility.  Contact the IRS to set up a payment plan.  The sooner the better.

  6. She should contact the IRS and set up installment plans.  They will work with her and let her pay as much or to some extent as little as she wants to, and as long as she makes all the monthly payments, they will be happy and won't go after her assets.  It is best that she does contact them instead of them having to come to her.

If she still has a job that doesn't withhold enough, she could always make quarterly estimated payments. Have her download Form 1040-ES from www.irs.gov to find out more.

She can contact them about setting up the installment payments at 800-829-1040.
