  1. male budgies seem to be the ones who can learn to talk better...if you get two they can still learn how to talk. Here is my strategy that i like to use with my budgies. TO start off with every night before you close the cage..like cover it for the night...if you do...or if you don't you should so they won't get startled during the night...ok so right before you cover the cage (dont cover it all the way so there isnt air goin' through to them) right before say Good night several times nice and slowly to them in a nice calm and soothing voice..that way it will register in their little heads after a while if you do it every night for a while. You should also when and if you let them out of the cage to fly around or perch on the cage etc. you should walk up to them and say "good birdies" or "good birds" or "good bird" lol. Mine learned to say Good Birdy very well...not ecsactly fully pronouncing the letters, but you will hear it after a while...it took me quite some time of millet feeding and talkin to them until they decided they wanted to start repeating it! I hope this helps, and good luck ; )

  2. it 's veryVERY VERY hard to teach them if there's  two. oh and boy parakeets are easier to train.(read in book)

  3. You can try but it is rare. You got good answers, I just threw in my two cents from experience. It doesn't hurt to try and the birds may be curious and respond. But generally speaking no, you are the third wheel. You're in charge, but you're just a big squaker in the flock. It could happen, but don't be real confident.

  4. It is very difficult to teach a budgie to talk, especially if he/she has another bird in its cage.

If you want a bird for your sister that can talk I would buy a tame baby budgie. Just one. Because the reason they learn to talk is because they believe they are people. So if there was another budgie it would soon figure out its not alone. Also its ideal not to have a mirror in its cage, its easier to get it to learn to speak. This is so it doesn't know its a bird.

Also when you get two or more budgies they tend to become more bonded with one another and begin to prefer each others company as to yours. If you choose to get one and want it to talk, get a boy. They are easier to learn to talk, girls can but boys are just easier. You can tell a boy from a girl budgie by looking at their ceres. The cere is the waxy like membrane surrounding the birds nostrells. If its blue, dark purple kind of blue then its a boy. If its white/pale blue, beige, tan, crusty brown its a girl. If its a baby then its cere will be a fuscia type colour. (hot pink ish ) You can tell a boy from a girl around the age of 4 months.

I would suggest getting your budgie from a breeder who tames them. And getting a male.

Good luck! I hope I've helped.

  5. All birds of the parrot variety are capable of "talking" which is mimicing sounds they frequently hear. Although some never end up talking. It depends on ur birds. one may talk while the other may feel the need not to. they will talk to each other but if they do talk then they still will. Hard to explain. If the bird can talk it will continue talking. Kind of like swimming for example. Once you learn how to swim you'll nvr forget, even if you are in different waters. birds are they same they wont forgot things they were taught. hope i helped
