  1. It comes out straight away.

  2. It pre-authorises the transaction immediately by this I mean it will check to see if there are funds and hold them. Usually by end of business day the funds are then released to the retailer. The hold is immediate so if you buy they take. If you buy and take back the same day they will hold the funds untill they reverse which takes a little longer than a business day.

  3. immediately

  4. It should be done immediately. You're not getting credit.

  5. Near instantly. Or at the latest at the close of the day's business. Though if your bank is slow and somewhat stupid it might take a little longer to post.

But you can't "float" transactions like you used to be able to with Cheques, so be sure that you have the money the moment you charge it.

  6. Its normally taken out instantly

  7. It should happen almost instantly, in theory with a debit card you should only be able to pay for things that you have enough money for in your account. Your card should be declined in the shop as having "insufficient funds".

In practise though, sometimes this doesn't happen and if you don't have an overdraft and you buy something that you don't have the funds for, you would go overdrawn and the bank would probably charge you for an unauthorised overdraft.

    So be careful!

  8. It really depends on the merchant.  In most cases, the money is deducted or "pending" within a few minutes of the transaction, but in some cases it may take one or two days to actually be deducted from your account.

  9. On a debit purchase it should come out instantly. If you purchase it debit visa it can take up to two weeks.
