Would it waste more gas using cruise or would it be about the same?

  1. No... Cruise get the BEST MPG.  You get the best MPG if you can keep your speed CONSTANT.  But your foot cannot be as accurate as the computer.

If you want to save gas follow these rules:  This was on NBC morning TV show.   The difference is as much as 38% (their claim).  There are very simple rules to save gas:

    (1) drive slow - not too much past 55

    (2) accelerate slowly

    (3) don't brake unnecessarily

    (4) use cruise control - whenever it is safe to do so.

Don't coast - it is NOT safe (to coast in Nuetral) and it does NOT save gas.  It only saves gas, if you are planning to slow down (exiting, tolls, traffic).  Coasting then accelerating again is LESS efficient than just cruising.

The above really works. Using those simple rules I was able to drive from Boston to NYC (210.5 miles) on just 5.112 gallon (94 Civic).  That's 41 MPG (94 Civic 187K miles).  Actually I was speeding at 72 MPH so I could do even better at 55.

    WOW !!

  2. Cruise will use slightly less gas because the engine will stay at a constant rpm instead of revving every couple seconds as you press the pedal to keep your speed up, unless of course you have a steady foot and can maintain the same speed without lifting your foot off the pedal.

  3. No, on the contrary, it would use less gas.  The more your speed fluctuates, the more gas you use.

  4. I strongly disagree with the rest fellows, whenever you have it on CRUISE CONTROL as it goes over the speed as it usually does, it decelerates then CRUISE CONTROL quickly accelerates the engine back to the desire speed. (Right? It Does this all the time your driving, sometimes unnecessary)Accelerating and decelerate the engine makes it consume more gas and thats exactly what cruise control does, it accelerates back and forth. I rather accelerate at a slower pace, and only when I really have to. Don't want to hit the front car.

  5. no it actually helps save gas because it helps keep the speed at a more constant rate than using the gas pedal, they have done test on this to prove it,it actually saves a lot of gas ,but this all depends on the cruise speed you have it set at,the speeds they found this was most effective at was around 55-65 ,anything over that actually waste gas,but it does help a lot,the car has to be in excellent running condition though for this to be helpful though, any car running badly will use more gas using the cruise control because it will constantly try to maintain a steady speed, and it will cause the car to fluctuate in speed more often, good luck.
