If you record something onto a DVR, does it work on a Blu-ray player?

I assume you mean a DVD and not a DVR. If so your answer is yes, it absolutely will. While they won't be high definition, it will up-convert it to a very nice quality level.

Both Blu Ray and HD DVD are backward compatible to standard DVDs.

no DVD is a red laser BLU Ray are blue laser,both are different, but there ares some players which play multiple format, or the drives in the new laptops and desktops, plays all the formats in a single drive
