If you redesigned Splash Mountain to have higher capacity, how would you do it? I mean handle more people per hour. Splash Mountain is a very good ride, but it always has a really long line. I've thought of several ideas that I don't think will work:

1. Longer logs. These won't fit, unless the ride is radically changed and it wouldn't be as fun.

2. More logs. I think they already go through as often as possible, so I don't think this would work.

3. Longer ride. It already is ten minutes long. That's good, but I think a lot of people wouldn't want to sit even longer on a ride like that.

4. Add a second "track" like the Disneyworld version of Space Mountain. I think this would work, but where would it go? The construction cost would at least double I think.

What's your plan?

  1. the wait is so worth it. i wouldn't change a thing

  2. There should be no changes to Splash Mountain, the capacity for that attraction is very, very high...espcially for a water ride of that type. Thousands of people plunge into the Laughing Place everyday, I still think to this day Disney did a great job in figuring out and planning the capacity for this ride because it is a people eater.

And there's really nothing you can do to improve capacity as of now unless you want to shut down this ride for months and redesign the track and just the whole attraction itself. There are so many logs on the track at once that you can't add anymore logs on anymore, and the capacity is at its highest.

Even Disney still trys to help capacity by adding a 3rd loading area at Walt Disney World's version earlier this year.

The reason why Splash Mountain always has a long line really depends...it could be because it's hot and people want to get wet, or it's just a popular ride that people like, or family friendly and not intense, or just fastpass. Fastpass is almost always why the wait for rides at the Disney parks seem long...it just brings in more people than it should on Fastpass. Without FP, the lines would seem much shorter and move faster, because you don't have to worry about another line going on the same ride as you.

  3. I say just keep it the way it is! It's fun and everyone can get a turn after waiting in line for a few minutes (or an hour) anyways. But I like the way you think. =)

  4. I would make the loading station longer.  There would be more sections to get in your boat instead of just 2 like they already have.  The loading station would have to be a lot longer for more sections so they could move the sign where it shows your picture to either closer when you get in the tunnel, right after the drop, or they could just take it out because you see your picture anyway through the exit.  With a longer station you would get in your log and you probably have to wait a few minutes for your log to go so they wouldn't have all the logs together.  It would still be better if you were waiting in a log than waiting in line because it could move the line up a lot and you could be in the station excited instead of way back in line.  It is also better if your waiting in a log because you don't realize that you are waiting a long time to go.  You are just in your boat having a good time.  Also if you are not in your log yet but you are still in the station it is the same thing.  You think your about to get on the ride and your excited.  There would not need to be more boats either.  Their boats would be the same length apart from each other even though they are next to each other in the station.  I really think if Disneyland tried they could do this and shut down Splash Mountain for a few months.  It would be worth it for a shorter line.
