  1. i had a very fat beagle... her belly was huge.. people always thought she was pregnant but she lived to be 18 (human) years old so i would say well loved

  2. i love chubby dogs but the owner might be feeding it too much and has to lay off the treats cause that could be a health problem

  3. Really depends on how fat the dog is. Some dogs are naturally built bigger and exceed the standard weight. I'd  most likely say well loved. Most people feel that scraps and treats show your animal that they are loved. They don't intend to make their pet unhealthy. However, if the dog is dangerously overweight to the point where any person can obviously see it's a problem I would have to say mistreated.

  4. I would say that it was treated verrrry well. Dogs don't live long, they mine as well eat & be happy.

  5. I would think that the qwnes thought that they were treating it well but I would think that it was not being treated the best because it is not nearly living its life to the fullest.

  6. I would say well-loved, but by people who didn't know what they were doing.

  7. People can be so rude! Yea, I know my dog's fat! Did you ever think maybe I foster this poor 111 lb. golden retriever because of some c**p owner who abandoned her dog because it was too fat? Only to find out it had a medical condition preventing it from losing weight. Do they know i take this dog everyday to the river, rain or shine, just to exercise it? No they don't, they just want to tell me why i would ever do this to a dog or how im such a terrible owner.

Yup get it all the time!

    Think before you say people!

  8. Honestly, I think I would say mistreated. If you really love your pet, you should not let them become "fat." They should be their proper breed weight.. no more, no less. Extra fat can make them get diabetes, heat intolerance, skin conditions, and reproductive and digestive problems.

Please talk to your vet about the medium/proper weight of your particular pet's breed.

  9. i would say that it is mistreated because if you love someone or something you will make sure he is healthy a dog/puppy will eat and eat especially human food non stop if given the chance and that leads to health problems and that to me is mistreatment not love for the animal

  10. I'd prefer not to think anything about the dog's living conditions, unless I personally knew the owners. Some dogs are fat because they're simply neglected or ill, while other dogs are fat because they're non intentionally overfed by their loving owners who can't resist those staring eyes during dinner time or whatever. I wouldn't want to make a judgment like that unless I knew the story behind the dog's obesity.

Total shame that opinions aren't welcome here, haha.

  11. I wouldn't say anything unless i knew the owners well enough to ask questions about the dog. I would hope that the vet would say something if its overweight purely because its being overfed/under exercised or a combination of the both.

For those who say that a fat dog is a happy healthy dog what planet are you on??? Its the same for humans, you can't say someone who is overweight or obese is really healthy can you??

There could be a number of reasons a dog is overweight so i would say its none of my business to say anything to an owner i didn't know.

  12. As a dog groomer, I would say neither is the answer.  Just like an over-fed child, it is not in the best interest to be fat.  I have difficulty grooming overly fat dogs on the table...they pant due to their excessive weight, want to sit down all the time and it is actually pitiful that owners let them get this way.

  13. depends how fat.

my dogs are fat. but they are very loved and happy. they are quite round and pleasently plump =]

i tell my mom its the fur that makes them look fat but when there shaved.. there still fat lol.

but in that one show the 250lb rottie. THAT is mistreated!

  14. its ok for a dog to be fat one of my dogs r fat

  15. well loved:)

    i have a newfondland.(however you spell it)

    and she is huge!

but we treat her verrry well:)

  16. It is misguided love.................

  17. I wouldn't say necesarrily mistreated because some pet owners are so obsessive that they don't realize the dog is overweight.  I work at a vet clinic and some of these people don't understand that having a 45lb. Beagle is NOT normal.  It's mainly misguided or well-intentioned love shown to the pet via food.

  18. LOVED! My dogs are fat and thats because they get good food + yummy treats.

As long as he gets a varied diet and is healthy then who cares!

  19. Neither.  I wouldn't "say" either one.....

However, I would think first that it was not getting enough or no exercise, and is possibly being "over fed".

  20. well loved. my dog is fat we treat him very well.

  21. I wouldn't say mistreated, growing up our family dog was overweight. He was FAR from mistreated. However I would call the owners LAZY!!

Of course there are things that go along with that, like is the dog a rescue, thyroid problems and such.

What kind of loser goes around giving EVERYONE a thumbs down?? This is an OPINION question people!

  22. I don't know???

    Thats a hard one....

A dog could be very loved and exercised daily but has a slow metabolism.

Or a dog could be well loved and  be well exercised but spoiled with treats.

    BUT

A dog could be not walked regularly left a dog feeder and not well taken care of.

So it depends on the situation.

    Good Question.

    x*x

  23. Oh my god how fat is that dog!

  24. they have been well loved but the loving turned into mistreating. giving an animal to much food is mistreating. especialy if they didnt have a way they could burn it off easy eg. didnt take it for walks often. id say they've been mistreated

  25. What would I say "hey look at that fat dog" Then I'd probably rant on until someone gets pissed off. People love there dog o much there actually mistreatng them. To much fat puts a lot of stress on the heart and just about everythng else. Especially in large breed dogs whso already predisposed to joint problems. Being over weight just makes it ten times worse.

  26. I wouldn't say anything unless it was a friend's dog, then I'd advise them to put the dog on a diet. Just like it's not healthy for a human to be obese, it's not healthy for an animal.

  27. Depends. My friend has a Pit/lab mix that's fat. She's trying to get the weight off of him now but says it was put on because mom gave them a  home made food and barely exercised them. I dunno, though. The other two dogs in that household got the same and they aren't fat so i'm wondering if maybe it isn't a genetic predisposition...?

In their case they were loved too much lol. But it can be considered neglect and/or cruelty because fat dogs can have the same problems fat people have. Here's a pic of him:

  28. MISTREATED an over feed with human food

  29. being fat is as bad as being to skinny, they are both u healthy and the owner needs to think about the dogs health, a NOT just about them making themselves feel better by (spoiling) their pet.. and id say... would you give your kids beer bc they asked for it also??
