  1. According to the APA league rules if you scratch on the break (assuming you don't pocket the 8 ball) then your opponent gets a ball in hand.  Your opponent has to place the ball behind the head string and shoot in the direction like he was breaking.

  2. not  on yahoo pool...if you make the 8 ball on the break in real pool   you win    in yahoo  you lose

  3. Only if you make the '8' ball.

Otherwise opponent gets the cue ball behind the head string and his choice of group.

  4. No

  5. just almost got into tussle in phoenix AZ cause of this. Goofy local bar rule, everyone standing around watching claimed i lost. thought  they were messing with me cause i just ran 5-6 racks ina row when it happened, but they say thats how they play...

  6. no you do not lose. Your cousin must be a moron

  7. The answer to this question depends on a few different things--what rules you are using (for example, regular bar rules, TAP league rules, APA league rules, BCA league rules), and if you also make the 8-ball on the break.  If you are playing by regular bar rules, with no alterations, you cannot lose by scratching on the break, no matter what.  If the 8-ball is also made, you'll just have to start over, or spot the 8-ball on the table.  In TAP league, you can only lose by scratching on the break if the 8-ball also falls (on the flip side, if you make the 8-ball on the break but DON'T scratch, you automatically win).  BCA pool is played similarly to regular bar pool--if you scratch on the break and the 8-ball falls the 8-ball is pulled out and spotted on the dot on the table (where the top of the rack is placed).  I'm not entirely sure about APA league as I haven't played that one yet, but I believe it's similar to BCA.  Hitting the cue ball off the table is considered the same as scratching.  And it's the worst feeling in the world to make an 8 on the break in TAP, and then scratch--so close, yet so far.

  8. no the only way you loose is if you are trying to get the 8 ball in and you scratch and not get the 8 ball in then you loose.

  9. No.   If you scratch on the break in pool, your opponent gets to 'spot' the cue ball, putting it anywhere on the table - that is, according to Yahoo's rules for pool.

  10. No, if you scratch off the break your opponent gets ball in hand behind the head string (in the kitchen) and can shoot at any suit.
