  1. WAP 4 means as follows:

    W-Means the loco can or should run in Broad Gauge tracks.

    A- Means it can run only in AC traction. Next time if u spot the loco see its AC panto.

    P-Means it can be used for Passenger trains and not for goods trains.

    4- Means the species of its class.

    Generally these type of locos may be denoted as ED WAP 4 or JHS WAP 4.

    ED or JHS means Erode or Jhansi it is the shed in which the loco is housed.

  2. "WAP 5 is the name of a class of electric locomotive used by Indian railways. The first 10 locos were imported from ABB (now Bombardier Transportation) in Switzerland in 1995. Chittaranjan locomotive works (CLW) started production in 2000. It was designed to haul 26 coach passenger trains at 160 km/h. It is the first 3-phase loco in India.
