if you shoot a barrel filled with gasoline (or some other flammable substance,) what will it do? 'Cause in video games and movies, they always explode, but I can't figure out how that would happen in real life. what would happen, would it explode, or just puncture the barrel?

the pressure of the inside of the container will feel the impact of the shot and explode   muhahahaha :)

It would puncture the barrel and the fluid would just leak out.

Enless you kept shooting the barrel (assuming it was metal) until it was hot enough to ignite the fuel i think it would just put holes in the barrel. I'm sure someone has tried it, look up a video on google. I know that if you shoot a pressurized tank of kerosine it will just shoot into the sky like a rocket.

Typically, it will just puncture the barrel. We tried this by shooting a .22 at a gas can. We couldn't get it to do anything except leak the gas out.

We also tried to light a couch on fire with a cigarette. We couldn't get that to work either.

depends on how far you are away from said barrels when you shoot at them.

most likely it wont explode..

i saw this program on nat geo called "i didnt know that"

in it they put a glowing splint into a diesel container and nothing happened...the splint just went off...

they explained that for the diesel to burn diesel vapour was neccesary...so the room temperature must be around 40 centigrade or above....so that there will be diesel vapuor from evaporation

Nothing happens except a hole in the barrel. Mythbusters tv show did this very experiment with a gasoline tank off a car, and they couldn't get the thing to blow. I think they eventually got a fire started using tracer rounds, but that was it.
