  1. no i think it is not.. you may prepare onions for salad as follows..

chop finely one onion put in a small glass bowl add salt pepper and one spoon vinegar and one spoon salad oil.. mix let rest for 15 minutes and then add this dressing to the salad..

  2. dude you have come to the right person....they actually dont soak them in water...they soak them in vinegar...its so easy even a kid can make them...just slice the onions and put them in vinegar all day....next day you can consume them

  3. It will taste better

for salads they dip in water to reduce the strong taste

  4. the onion itself will lose it's taste but will be more crunchy, however it is soaked in ice water with chopped coriander and then strained. Seasoned with salt, pepper and chat masala, and chili powder if liked, which will make it taste better.

  5. I would just rinse it.

  6. I agree with thug.  My grandmother used to do this, plus added some salt,  and we would add it to everything.  So delicious.

  7. well I always make, only onion slice,

slice thinly, add pinch of salt, 1tsp white vinegar & few

    drops of lime juice.

then slightly mash it or mix it with your

    fingers.

or if you like hot then you can add chopped green

    chillie.

  8. They are not soaked but mixed with a just little vinegar (or fresh lemon juice), a tbsp of oil, cilantro leaves, red chili powder, cumin and salt.  The key is adding a tiny tiny pinch of sugar.  Sometimes a small pinch of chaat masala or garam masala is also added.  I prefer to use thinly sliced red onions for this recipe. Super easy & delicious!

  9. *No !!! they will not taste better !!

But if u dip them in a solution of vinegar or lemon juice and salt, they will sure taste better !!!!

U can even add the chopped /sliced onions and some sliced tomatoes to a yoghurt or curds with  a little salt and sugar and serve it as a ''koshimbir or kachumar'' , garnished with chopped coriander leaves and green chillies ..... as they do so in many indian restaurants !!!!
