  1. There are about 111 km. per degree of latitude so you'd be 1,111 km. north.


  2. basically the earth is 20000 kms from the north to the south - broken into 180 latitudes. making it approx 111.1 kms per latitude. all latitudes are parallel and equidistant from one another.  therefore 10 degrees of latitude (anywhere and not just near the equator) is 1111 kms
