Question:

If you stop lifting weights for only a couple of days, will the muscles in your arms start turning into fat?

Due to an injury at football practice last week, I can no longer lift weights due to my finger having some kind of weird named fracture in it. So, the doctors say it should heal in 10 days or so. And I'm scared, because I'm used to lifting weights and doing other exercises everyday to keep in shape and I'm afraid that my muscles(especially in my arms) may start getting more fat and flabby in those 10 days. Will that happen? Or will it take longer to occur?

  1. In 10 days you won't lose a thing, other than momentum. Muscle does not magically turn into fat- muscle atrophies from lack of use (takes more than a week to kick in), and fat develops from taking in more than you burn; two separate processes. You might feel a little off on your first day or two back in the gym, but that'll disappear real fast. If you're worried about gaining fatty weight, then just make sure you adjust your diet to compensate for working out less.

  2. Maybe a little, but not enough to be noticeable.

  3. its imposible for muscle to turn into fat

  4. No. Muscle is muscle. Fat is fat. They don't turn. It may get a little softer, but it wont change.

Yes, I'm sure. The muscle is softer, that's all.
