  1. You can technically lose into the pounds of weight by sweating, but it's all water weight.

It's not "real" weight loss, and it's fluid you should actually be replenishing in equal amounts to those lost.

Too much sweating without replenishment can lead to heatstroke, electrolyte loss (kidney damage, etc.), and other cardiovascular problems. Dehydration can also interfere with the body's ability to burn fat (for which it needs water).

You need to burn calories through cardiovascular activity to lose weight -- ultimately burning more than you consume. For true weight loss, it matters little how much you're sweating during that activity. Sweating mainly shows you're overheating.

If you can run when it's *not* sunny, you might sweat less, but if the cooler weather means you can do more actual activity, you'll lose more "real" weight.

  2. Sweating is just your body's natural way of cooling itself down if it gets hot or something of the sort. So, you could be losing weight when you're running, but that's from the running itself, not the sweating. The sweating is basically just showing that your body needs to be cooling itself down with the exercise you're performing.

  3. If that was true, I lose weight eating.

  4. It is true the body has to burn extra calories to regulate body temperature when you're either overheated or chilled.  That said, I don't believe its a very significant amount of calories.  The majority of weight you lose when you're sweating is simply water weight, so even though you may lose more weight when you're running and sweating, it doesn't mean you're losing more fat.  You will gain the majority of the weight back when you rehydrate which is how it should be.  Losing fat is a slow process but if you're consistent, you still get dramatic results.  I believe there are 3500 calories in a pound of fat and in thirty minutes of running you probably burn between 300-400 calories.  So it would take roughly nine or ten days of running for thirty minutes to lose one pound of fat.  However, create another 300-400 calorie deficit by modifying your diet and you're down to a pound of fat every four or five days....doesn't sound like much but this is 73 lbs of fat in a year's time.  You probably don't need to lose this much so you can afford to take a few days off here and there.  Keep in mind if you're losing weight faster than this its not going to be fat weight anyway but water and/or muscle and what's the point in that.  Might as well keep it slow and consistent to keep your losses all coming from fat stores which is what its all about.  Stick with it and watch your body and life change for the better!
