If you take a drug test for a company does that mean they will hire you?

I took a drug test for JC Penny's about a week ago. I'm guessing they paid for it and everything. Does that mean they are planning on giving me the job. I can't wait around forever and if not i want to go to an interview tomorrow.

  1. Nope, it might mean that they are considering you but it is not definite that they will hire you.

Also depends on how you do with the drug test.

  2. I have never heard of a company that makes you take a drug test if your not hired. Every job I had, they make an offer and you have to take a drug test within 48 hours or the offer would expire. Do you know if you failed? If not then I would just call. Tell them you went to take a drug test and you were just wondering if they got the results back because you haven't heard from them, then you'll get the answer you need and good exscuse to call.

  3. If you haven't heard from them after a week and you know you would have passed that test, given them a call and ask for a follow up interview. It wouldn't hurt.

But also don't skip the other interview.

Side note, I work in Jcpenneys now as a cashier and they are really really slow with the economy being like it is, so maybe they aren't hiring any one at the moment, I know my store isn't hiring like they did in other summers and is actually cutting peoples hours now.

(However, my store did not require drug testing so you their policies may have changed or you may not be applying for a job on the floor but in the office, in which case I'm not sure about.)

  4. Drug tests cost money and companies don't like to throw money away. I've never heard of a company giving someone a drug test unless they were planning on hiring them. In fact, I've never heard of someone taking a drug test without being offered a job first. I would call them and ask them about your status. Even if you don't do drugs, it's possible to have a false positive. They may let you retake it, if that's the case.

Regardless, I wouldn't skip a job interview based on the idea that JC Penny MIGHT hire you.
