  1. One pound equals 3500 calories. Track the calories that you consume for a week with a normal diet. You have to subtract about 500 calories a day (either through diet or burning them by exercising) to equal 1 pound of weight lost. It is not recommended that you go below 1200 calories a day because your body will react by slowing the metabolism. It's also good to have one or two days a week where you "shake things up" a bit by increasing the calories you consume. Maybe do that on your exercise rest day. The next day lower the calorie intake again and you can really rev your metabolism. Good luck!
