  1. Well, Sacramento probably gets the worse end of this trade because they lose two young guys and a defensive wiz for a future pick, a shoot first PG, and a pretty solid young talent in Greene. But yes, it's pretty close.

  2. the only difference is that the rockets could go in a completely opposite direction as the lakers, as team chemistry is what really matters. just look at detroit...no real superstar yet they've been competitive for years. you can have 3 stars like boston but you've gotta make it work

  3. im not sure but it was just a steal for lakers and rockets if artest behave. but those trades did boost Lakers sinifcantly and it will be the same for rockets

  4. I think Kings sees the potential in Donte Greene, a 6'10" forward who has range on the outside. Other than that, Gasol and Artest are essentially different.

  5. You make some good points they seem very similar in the deals. However Artest comes with some huge baggage. Did you see how he publicly ripped Yao when Yao questioned Artest's behavior. He wasn't an angel in Sacramento if you remember he had a domestic charge and also the incident with malnourished dogs. He also trashed the Kings organization after they had been so good to him giving his career new life after the brawl. Yao asked if he would get a mature Artest and Artest said something about representing black people being ghetto or something like that. You don't here that from Pau Gasol (sure he demanded a trade) but Gasol isn't a 30 day suspension waiting to happen.

Not many teams were willing to gamble on Artest's volatile nature. It was clear that Artest was unhappy in Sacramento. Adelman is one of the only coaches who is willing to risk coaching this guy (and he only had him for a month). Correction: It was longer than a month lol.

Artest also isn't a franchise player like Pau Gasol. But however I think that Sacramento could've squeezed a quality young player rather than just players of potential. It's obvious that Memphis could've gotten  more for Gasol buut it's  not as evident realizing the track history of such a volatile nature in Artest.

Also it's entirely possible that Artest is a one year experiment unlike Gasol who will be with the Lakers for probably the five - six years.

  6. well yes except the laker 1st rounders will be lower than the houston 1st rounder. and i think gasol is a little more valuable than artest is.

  7. Well, when  you break it down like you did, any trade is similar.

  8. yes they are alike ..

  9. The reason they are similar is because both Memphis and Sacramento are rebuilding teams. But comparing those trades to the Kevin Garnett trade, the Celtics actually had a semi-proved young star to give the Timberwolves. The Grizzlies were kinda stupid though for not exploring more options unlike the Kings where there were rumors like odom-for-artest and josh howard-for-artest. And what's similar between Kwame Brown and Bobby Jackson during those trades were that they had one year left in their contract and didn't have to play lots of minutes.

Rebuilding teams normally trade their stars for draft picks so they can draft young players, expiring contracts so they'll have cap flexibility the next season, and if possible, a semi-proven star (in the case of Al Jefferson)
