  1. Many appliances are on standby - for example, a TV is actively waiting for a signal from the remote and power is used to operate this continual monitoring. The amount used is small, but adds up over a year. Total up computers, chargers, VCRs, and DVDS and it can cost you a months power every year.

    Turn them off overnight.

House fires can also start from faulty appliances - but not when switched off at the wall.

  2. Yes, most, if not all appliances use some electricity when unplugged; even phone chargers do so. However, don't go unplugging your oven or refrigerator, obviously. But microwaves and many small appliances can make a big difference. After a month of my parentals nagging me about always having to plug things back in, they let it be after the electric bill was a whopping $35 less. Happy conserving!

  3. it is said that if u keep the plug in even though the switch is off then electricity gets utilised.......so it is better if u unplug the device when youre not using it....and yeah it will save you  money on your electric bill.

  4. No.  But it's a good fire prevention method.

  5. it depends if the machine is using the electricity too even if you are not using it. so i would say it is a good way to unplug the appliance if your not using it but if you choose not to unplug the appliance then make sure you don't touch or damage or it is not using any electicity. Very Good Question to ask though

  6. Televisions in particular are important to unplug when not in use.  They use a significant amount of energy when just plugged in.

  7. Not on most appliances,  on most appliances with an off switch cut the electric circuit, and you have to have a complete circuit for it to use electric.

Appliances like TV's or VCR's,  anything with an internal clock does use a minuscule amount of power.

  8. Only if it uses electricity when you're not using it.

  9. if you unplug an eletrical appliance it will certainly save some energy, and on the bill

  10. Only those that go on stand-by mode when turned off...so computers, tv's, etc.  If you unplug those then yes you would.
