  2. If lots of people do it habitually, then, they'd save a lot of trees.

    There's also the landfill that doesn't get used.

    And the energy and pollution cause in manufacturing the towels. And transportation through the whole process from getting raw materials to factory, towels to bathroom, used towels to dump.

    On the other hand, there's the energy to run the dryer.

    On the whole, it is better to use the dryer.

    I gather you're pointing out that my using one or other this one time makes no real difference.

    But hundreds of millions of people, habitually using one or the other makes a HUGE difference.
