I fried my dimm slot # 2 and now 1 and 2 our out of order. My only remaining are 3 and 4 which work. I have always heard that you want to use 1 and 2 then 3 and 4 , in that order. so because I am jumping over 1 and 2 will my performance now be weaker?

  1. absolutely no, when it comes to dimm slot the feting time from the ram position does not have effect to the speed of your Computer, it is only right to use one, two, three, four but there will be no significant measure of speed slowness using the bank from back

  2. hi no won't make any difference the only thing that does is different memory speeds

  3. It is advisable to avoid. But nothing wrong in actually using it.

  4. yeah, you could say that.

  5. Filling RAM in a certain order allows you to take advantage of dual channel RAM capabilities, meaning you get enhanced performance from pairs of RAM being in the particular order stated by your motherboard manual. Usually, this means pairing equally-sized, equal-speed RAM sticks slots 1 & 3, then 2 & 4. The pairs can be of different sizes, eg you can do 1GB+1GB and 512MB+512MB and still get dual channel. Also, they should all be the same speed, as all RAM sticks will run at the speed of the slowest stick.

If this is the case in your motherboard, and you've fried slots 1 and 2, you are no longer capable of taking advantage of dual channel on that motherboard.

However it may be the case that your motherboard needs RAM paired into 1&2, and 3&4 to use dual channel, in which case, using slots 3&4 will make no difference to using slots 1&2.
