I mailed several letters today (sunday) at a postal box outside the local grocery store and now to my horror I need to put in some paperwork I forgot. If I were to stand outside and wait for the worker, tell him which letters where mine. Would he/she give them to me?

  1. no.......

  2. No.  Once it's in the box, it has to be delivered.  Just get another envelope and mail the rest of the paperwork separately.

  3. Nope.

    By law they cannot.

  4. No, they have no way of really knowing if you are the one who sent it, regardless of the return address. Mail must be delivered to the addressee and if they can't they will return it by their regular means.

  5. No, it is not lawful to do so. The worker could loose his or her JOB

  6. Unfortunately, no.  Once you place your mail in the box, it becomes property of the Post Office, until it is delivered to the addressee.  This has happened to me, too -- best to put the additional papers in a separate envelope and mail today.

  7. No, it is against Postal Policy to give anything that goes into the box back  for reasons of security of the mail.
