Hi all,

I have wall mounted a B&W FPM5 speaker about 10 cm (4")above a 46" Bravia LCD TV. Ventilation around the setup is normal but the speaker gets warm up to 40-45 degrees C (113 deg. F.) Am I gradually damaging the speaker?

  1. The correct position to mount center speaker is below the TV for best audio performance. 45 degC will not damage the speaker / driver but it degrade speaker enclosure. This includes the fabric, plastic and paint work.

note: some speaker generate heat by itself especially if the driver unit is not designed well for best heat dissipation. For experiment, put the speaker far from TV, run it for hours, then check if the speaker is heated up.

  2. That can't be good and eventually can cause the speaker to degrade.  Can you mount it below the LCD. As heat rises it should be fine below.  Or anyway to deflect the heat that's rising.  Also make sure the LCD has plenty of room to vent and the intake is not clogged.  That sounds like allot of heat!!
