Question:

If you want to see an exciting, competitive fight, who do you think Oscar should fight on Dec 6?

Why are all these wanna-be hardcore boxing fans calling for Margarito and even Pavlik? Anyone with any sense knows that Oscar is an over-the-hill semi-retired fighter who does NOT rank in the top ten of any weight class. Oscar no way deserves a shot at Margarito the 147 champ. He hasn't even fought at 147 since 2001!! Title shots should be EARNED.

De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao at 147 will be a competitive fight with Oscar being the slight favorite, because of how badly faded Oscar is in 2008 (see Forbes' fight). It is meaningless for Oscar, but who cares about Oscar's legacy? Pacquiao would be the biggest boxing star in the world if he wins this fight!

Only other fight that would be competitive is Sergio Mora but Mora is not exciting like Pacquiao is.

  1. Let's be realistic. Most title shots in boxing are not EARNED these days and we all know it. Who did Ray Austin beat to EARN a title shot at Wlad Klitschko? Who did Floyd Mayweather beat at 154 to EARN a title shot against De La Hoya? De La Hoya-Margarito is the fight that fans really want to see. The Pacquiao fight is nothing more than a circus for Oscar. Pacquiao won't have a chance. People keep saying that Oscar looked terrible against Forbes, but we forget that Oscar dominated Forbes over 12 rounds even though he didn't KO him. Sure, Forbes hit Oscar but so what? It's boxing, you're gonna get hit. Plus Forbes has a totally different style from Pacquiao. Forbes is a slick defensive fighter and Manny is not. Manny will be right there for Oscar to hit, and Oscar's size and power will me too much for him. If Juan Marquez can stagger Manny with left hooks, how will he take Oscar's big hook?

I fault Oscar for even taking this fight instead of fighting Margarito. Margarito challenged Oscar, Oscar didn't challenge Margarito but Oscar should've taken the challenge. Oscar doesn't have to EARN a shot at Margarito, Oscar is the biggest PPV draw in the sport. Magarito is just getting his feet wet as a PPV attraction.

  2. i think what people get so upset about is that oscar claims that he is looking for the most competitive fights out there and his choice is so clearly financial. when are titles shots ever truly earned anyway? margarito is clearly in favor of fighting oscar and oscar says he wants the best out there. a margarito match would have been way better for boxing. oscar would have passed the torch to another great boxer and more exposure for a on the brink (popularity wise) fighter. i think boxing needs something drastic to save it from the muck at the professional level. while there have been some financially great and popular matches recently. Old lions roar the loudest near the end.

  3. I personally see Oscar as trying to take the easy way out.  He tried to fight Hatton before Manny.   How come he hasn't challenged Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Paul Williams, Kermit Cintron, Jermain Taylor.  Ok I see what your saying about Margaritto & Pavlik being champions & he doesn't deserve a shot but all these guys except Williams aren't champions & closer to his weight.  He's going to fight a guy that is 5'6" 134 1/2 lbs in his last fight & Oscar is 5'10" & has weighed as much as 160 lbs.  I hope Manny wins & KO's Oscar but I think Oscar took this fight because Manny can't hurt him & he can just box him & overpower him.

  4. oscar vs margo

  5. Margarito, it would be bloody and better for both fighters, if oscar would win he will be remembered for beating the welterweight champion, and get more respect from Mexicans, now if Margarito wins then that will look good on his record of beating Cotto  and beating De La Hoya in the same year, think about it, its a win- win senario, and im sure real boxing fans would agree with me.

  6. Ok I was at the Forbes fight...yes DLH did not knock him out but he completely shut him out. Forbes lost fairly drastically on points. Manny, like someone else had pointed out, will be much easier to hit without much of an effective punch against DLH.

How will this fight be competitive? Pacman should fight competitive fights at 135 which there are plenty to be made.

DLH should fight retirement and hopefully he'll lose.
