Question:

If you wear glasses long enough, will your vision improve?

Someone told me that if you've always worn glasses all the time, on a regular basis, (say around age of 12-16) then it will improve your vision and you might not have to wear them when you're older. Is that really true? And if it is, how long would it take?

  1. I wear my glasses 24/7. I went to the optometrist today to find that my left eye improved and my right eye only got worse by 1/4 since my last visit (about one year and 8 months ago). She told me not to wear them when I read though. I hope that helps though I must add that near/far sighted-ness is mostly hereditary. I'll add something else that might help; my sister's eyes have worsened greatly, she also wears her glasses 24/7.

I read that if you put more work on your eyes to focus vision then they get worse . I suppose that wearing your glasses will help them improve probably or help them to not worsen as fast, but again it's mostly hereditary.

  2. no opposite

  3. yes. I have had glasses since I was 12 & at that time the power of my glasses was negative 3.5  .And now I'm in my late 20's & it has reduced to negative 0.25.

  4. No, not true.

I got my firsy glasses in 1969, and my eyes have got a little worse with every exam.

Contact lenses can actually slow the deterioration of your eyesight, but it is a lot of work to wear them, and a ton of commitment.

  5. the short answer is NO. sorry, but if you wear glasses a lot and getr used to the clear quality of you vision, if you take them off and do not wear them for a while, it will just feel worse. the sad truth is, most eye problems that need glasses get a little worse over time, although i have known a few people that have gotten a little better. you can aklways get surgery to permanently fix ur eyes though, if the only thing is short- or near-sightedness.

  6. I am sorry to say that glasses to not improve your eyesight.

Most vision problems are caused by the eyeball having an irregular shape(nearsightedness-eyeball too long, farsightedness-eyeball too short). When the eyeball is irregularly shaped, light focuses on the wrong part of the eye, making it out of focus.

The only way to improve the vision is to get a lazer operation or something.

  7. Actually, no. Glasses do help in the short term, but in the long run, your eyes get worse, and I believe that. If you keep going to eye exams, the optometrist will most likely say your vision's getting worse. I don't want to sound all sponsor-like, but I found some books that can improve your eyesight the natural way.

  8. well im 12 and i've had glasses 4 like 3 yrs now, but it think my visions getting worse!

  9. personally your vision does not improve your eyes i've gone to the doctors the past 20 something years and asked iwas told it gets worser

  10. No. That's not true.

Glasses and contacts, however, slow down your vision changing significantly as they reduce strain on your eyes.

Yes, it is possible for your vision to just improve completely or by a little but this is very rare. I know a few who claimed they completely 'grew out' of it but I'm still doubting whether they're lying or not.

The best way to stop your vision changing will be to take short regular breaks from any activity involving the eyes at hourly intervals and during this time to look as far as possible, relaxing your eyes' muscles.

  11. No, it will have the exact opposite effect. Your eyes will get worse because your eyes are becoming dependent on the glasses/contacts.

  12. It worsens.

  13. Glasses do not have anything to do with whether your eyes get better or worse. The need for glasses comes from the shape of you eyeball (not perfectly round), or from the lens losing flexibility (this would require a bi-focal) and does not usually occur until late middle age. Your eyes will get better or worse on their own, because the glasses are just shifting light. They cannot change the physical shape of your eyes.

  14. I always thought that your eyesight got weaker the more dependent that your eyes became on glasses. The only way you can strengthen your eye sight, but only with some conditions is to strengthen your muscles around your eyes!!

  15. I always thought it was the opposite but I'm not sure
