assuming your not pregnant and your 20 years old (and you gained 70 lbs in the past year). Other than dieting is there any other immediate concerns that needs to be resolved? What diet programs do you recommend for someone that might want to lose the first 50lbs in the first year of dieting? Any inexpensive exercise routines? Also, is there a way that the person can jump start their period w/o seeing a doctor (this person is really not willing to go to the doctor because of a phobia, no matter how much I coax them it will be nearly impossible to get them to go). Please this is about someone dear to me so please, please help!

  1. If you gained 70 pounds in the past year and lost your period, there is a very high possibility that you have a hormonal problem, most likely too much testosterone.  I know you don't want to see a doctor, but this condition (polycystic ovary syndrome is one possible cause) can be life-threatening.  It is treatable.  There are compassionate doctors out there.  Please, just think about seeing a doctor.

    Good luck.

  2. s*x always made my period start, but that might not help this person. and about diets and exercise, theres not really an easy way to go about it, just the good old method of cutting back calories and getting at least an hour a day of physical activity, an hour a day to lose weight 30 minutes a day to maintain weight.

  3. If this person has suddenly gained the weight w/o an obvious reason she may have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome or a thyroid disorder.  Both of these should be treated by a Dr because they can lead to more serious problems later on.  For PCOS a low carb high protein diet is usually recommended but because the syndromes effects vary from woman to woman this is not always the case.  Walking is a very inexpensive exercise routine.  It's free! :)  I am sorry your friend is suffering a phobia that is keeping her from seeking treatment.  I too was like this...it took years to get up the courage to go.  Try to explain to her that the benefits of seeking treatment far outweigh the temporary discomfort it is going to cause her while at the Dr. :)  Good luck.

  4. i have a similar issue, my period stopped for 2 months, and what i was told by a doctor "in a social gathering, not real examination" that if i lost 10% of my weight my period would be regular again.

i am sure this is a weight related issue.

nothing for free.. to loose weight = diet + exercise " a 30 min. walk"

    best of luck
