A hand being 4 inches, create your height into inches and then

divide by 4.

6ft = 72 inches divide by 4 = 18 hands.  A tall horse

I'm short for people height, but converting my height to hands, I am 15.2 so that makes me a pretty average size horse.  Most people in hands would be about 17 hands... that would be the average size for people.
