told you that they were going to do it? Would you be upset over it and how would you react if that student got rude to you over the phone when you called to find out what was the deal?

  1. I work in an urban school so this happens all the time.  I do get upset and try to call the kid but then I turn around and try to keep the rest of my students in school.  Remember you can only help the ones who want to be helped.

  2. I would think: one less little b*****d to worry about.

  3. i'd be upset at the sad decision to dropout of school made by any student.  i probably wouldn't give up after the first phone call or the second, maybe the third.  maybe night school is a better place.

i'd like to dismiss the rude as hurt and maybe get to the root of the problem as this student may have extenuating circumstances causing him or her to act out.

too many times teachers and the schools want to throw dismiss students that have problems of any sort.  teaching is a profession of the heart, and one has to be empathetic.

  4. I would think that the student had some bad family problems and I would call to see if they were OK and to encourage him to get his or her GED. Sometimes there are bad family problems and there is not much we can do as a student just quits trying.
