Just a question that I thought I would throw out there for the very many that say that Joey is too young to be in the SPRINT CUP series. I don't think you can really blame HIM; maybe blame Gibbs for not waiting a while. I personally think they should have waited but I would never expect ANY driver to say no to this opportunity...........

  1. I wouldn't turn it down. You are absolutely right, who would turn that down? I think Gibbs should have waited but I guess they had to do something in light of Tony leaving. I certainly don't blame Logano for saying yes. Great question.

  2. No way could it be turned down.

One of the top rides on the circut.

    Leaves only one question.

Can Joey legally claim a pole position if it is sponsored by a beer or alcohol manufacturer? He is under 21?

  3. I would take it in a heartbeat, if anyone is deserving to get fingers pointed at them it's Joe Gibbs.

  4. I personally have said that he should get more experience in the Nationwide series first.  But then putting myself in his shoes would I say "No thanks, I don't want that kind of money, prestige and excitement until I get more experience in the Nationwide series".

h**l no I would not say that but jump at the chance to go for the King of all car racing!!!

  5. The kid has talent. There is no reason that he should not accept a chance to race with the big boys. Only time will tell.

  6. You are right Lenny; you can not expect him to say no, especially to Gibbs.  Ahh, to be 18 again, heck yes I would take a ride.  I am sure I would be good too.

  7. Heck, I think it'd be hard for a 30-year-old to turn down that kind of money and a shot at fame and fortune. Can't blame the guy. It's Joe Gibbs' problem if it doesn't work out.

At 18, I wouldn't have any better sense. You pretty much think you're invincible at that age and don't have the maturity to realize you might not be ready. Esp. if everyone else is telling you how wonderful you are.

He may have the talent and experience behind the wheel, but I wonder what happens to these kids' characters when they're pushed too hard too soon and told by the world from day one how magnificent they are. I'd hate to meet one 10 years from now.  But that doesn't have anything to do with their racing abilities or this question :).

  8. Of course he could not turn down the offer, but I hope he is not coming up too soon. Casey Atwood came to Cup very young and within a few years everyone was asking where he was. Kyle Busch was also young, but he has become very good. I expect that the Cup regulars will take Joey to school. He won't just be racing against Edwards and Bowyer every week, but against Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Harvick, Burton, Kenseth, Biffle, and Kahne too. I expect his rookie season to be rough going for Logano. Remember the #20 has not won a race with a seasoned driver like Tony Stewart so far this year.

  9. No, I wouldn't turn it down. Why would anyone? The whole goal of racing is doing what you love in order to someday make it up and race with the big boys. Joey should be congratulated for making it into the Cup series at such a young age. I have a feeling he will prove a lot of people wrong and have a lot of success in cup, even at this age. In racing, age doesn't mean much after a certain point. He's 18 years old and getting started this young will allow him to get better and better earlier than most drivers have. I would take any NASCAR ride I could get, even for Furniture Row Motorsports lol.

  10. I suppose it'd be hard to find any 18 year old that would turn down that kind of opportunity.

I think he needs another year or two in the Nationwide series before moving up to cup level. He may be good, but alot of good drivers at the Nationwide level struggle when they first start racing with the big boyz. But who knows? Maybe he'll surprise me.

  11. If I were an 18 year old with the talent and experience that Logano has, No I wouldn't turn it down!

It was planned for him to have another year under his belt before moving to Cup, but Tony's terminating his contract with Gibbs early left everyone little choice!

    PEACE!

  12. If I were JGR, I would have put him in the car now as well.  But I would tell him, look, we're not expecting you to hop in here and take right off.  Give the boy some conservative, realistic goals and I think he'll be just fine in time.

  13. No, I would never turn down such an awesome opportunity!

  14. Heck no!  If I were that kid I would go for it for all its worth.  He is on ESPN and everything else as a young Phenom.  You gotta get it while its hot.  He should go for it.

  15. He will find it tough racing in the SPRINT CUP series and it will likely take him a few years to reach his potential but he would have to be crazy to turn down the opportunity. He will be on a great team with some great drivers that can give him advice as he learns.I only hope he is mature enough to deal with all the criticism that comes with being a driver in SPRINT CUP.

  16. Would you turn down that kind of money if it were offered?  Me neither.  However, I'm not judging Logano's acceptance as much as JGR's gamble of putting that young of a driver in the seat.  GEM's debacle with Casey Atwood comes to mind.  Darn, Casey could have been good with a couple more years in Busch, too.

ETA: Well, Gillett wasn't involved back then so the finger pointing goes straight to RAY EVERNHAM!

  17. Well, I have been one of those who have said he's too young....but IF I WAS IN HIS SHOES....I wouldn't turn it down either! Great Question!
