  1. I was diagnosed at 11.  I started testing and injecting immediately after I left the hospital without help from anyone.

  2. My daughter was diagnosed when she was about 2 months old.  When she was 4, she started testing herself, although I had to do the readings and write in the log book, but she did the actual finger sticking and working her monitor.  When she was 7, she started injecting herself with insulin with me there to help with the dosage, but she did the actual injections..

  3. I was diagnosed in 1984 at age 16 and started injections when I was still in the hospital.  They showed me how and I was off and running.  Back in those days we only did 2 injections a day, but over time I went up to 4-6 a day and then eventually went on a pump.  I started testing myself right away too, but back then they used mostly urinalysis strips with only occasional blood tests on those plastic strips.  It was another 4 years or so before I had my first meter.

  4. I was diagnosed when I was 4, my blood sugar I think I started maybe at 7, but injecting insulin not till I was around 11. Sooo, afraid of needles, when I was 21 I switched to insulin pump, it broke a few days ago but I am trying to figure out a way to get another one, it really worked for me.
