I worked for a company for approx. 5 years. I was fired and it was extremely embarrassing and ugly... How should I respond when the interviewer asks me why was I fired?

  1. You are under NO obligation to tell any potential employer you were fired! You left a company after five years. That's normal and all you should say. As to why you left, come up with an answer that is as honest as possible:

-- there was a change in management, and you felt like you didn't fit anymore

-- there was no room for advancement, no opportunities for learning, etc.

-- you wanted a new job; after five years, you found yourself uninspired and felt like it was best for both you and the employer to leave

-- you wanted a career change

    -- etc.

    The less said, the better.
