If you were going to investigate a haunting?

what would your favorite piece of equipment be? how would you use it?

My favorite piece of equipment where ever I go is my iPod.  I never leave home without it.

And, though I am not an investigator, if I were going on an investigation, my iPod would be the best piece of equipment I can think of!

Why? Because it would give me something to listen to as I am sitting out on the car, scared sh**less, waiting for the serious investigators to finish up so we can get the heck out of there! lol

EDIT:  Just in case there is concern that I am not pulling my weight on the investigation I will gladly volunteer to be the wheelman!

A lie detector.  Funny how many 'hauntings' are caused by people playing tricks on each other.

I'd leave the camera and tape recorder home and only bring a thermal camera. Mostly I'm interested in experiencing phenomena and sharing notes with others who were there. Recording things gets into the iffy 'is it real' area that's so hard to prove.

This is to Eri... maybe you should go out and explore your self, then you will know that no lies have been said, unless you are lying to your self...In all honesty alot of people are in it, for serious research, so they wouldnt lie to themselves..and yes there are people who will lie, but they are just thrill seekers, and nothing more...also i know you used to believe in paranormal, but when you tryed to make something happen time and time again and nothing happened for you,..you just came to the conclusion that you had been lied to..and nothing more...paranormal phenonemen is one of the hardest things to try and research, as its there, but its not, we cannt grasp it in our hands, nor can we just turn a switch on and it will happen on command...you just have to be in the right place and the right time, and alot of patience...now if you are intelligent enough you will figure that out for your self...so just because you have never had an experience, dont call other people liers..please...

I have to laugh.. taking a lie detector to a haunting..there goes your evidence straight out the door....whats the lie detector going to do...see if the spirits are lying to you....

I really hesitated answering this question.

If I could bring one thing & favorite, it would have to bring a Infrared Camera or thermal camera.

These cameras can be used for survelance, building inspection, heat signatures, electrical & more.

They could also be used to possibly debunk something or find other plausable explanations.

Yes, the price is a huge factor.  When I went on a few investigations with some colleage professors( OMG, imagine that???), they had one.  I think they are amazing!!!  Not to mention, how versitile are they to this specific study?!  They recieved theirs on a grant.  Lucky dogs.

I myself totally agree with ~~~333~~~ for what was said.  I laughed so hard about the lie detector!!

    I would take my Digital Camera as they say a picture is worth a thousand words!!  I would use it to take pictures around the Group and would take pictures where I got the strongest feeling to take one also.  Tape recorders are hard sometime to get EVPs with than a camera catching the Paranormal that can be seen.
