I'm not doing it. I was just wondering in case. Sometimes Walmart is out and the pet store only carries pine.

  1. Paper Shreddings are perfect.

  2. Paper towel is fine as bedding - absorbant and soft.  Just rip it up with your hands.

  3. Only if you're prepared to clean the cage frequently- it won't do harm to the animal but it doesn't absorb liquid well and will soon get soaked and start to smell.

  4. oh yes, paper shreddings are an ideal and cheap bedding for almost any rodent, especially hamsters. They love that stuff. Make sure to clean the cage often though...

  5. i wouldnt use paper shredder as bedding but the paper towels are fine. just make sure they arent scented. i use paper towels, toilet paper, and tissues for bedding for my rodents, but i make sure its unscented. it totally works. and my rodents love to rip it up more after ive ripped it up a little. it can be entertaining for them.

  6. News paper works if it is shredded finely. I wouldnt use paper towel 'cause it will stink

  7. dont use paper towels, just newspaper and shredded paper. theyll eat the paper towels, trust me

  8. Yup, I've used it in a pinch for my rats when they ran out of CareFresh. I changed it every day.

  9. Yeah you can use paper as long as it is unbleached, untreated and non-fragrant otherwise it can cause your hamsters skin allergies.

You can also use ripped toilet paper. Make sure that the toilet paper you give them is untreated / unbleached and does not have any fragrance in them.

Don't throw away the empty tubes after using the toilet roll. Give them to your hamsters and watch them have great fun playing with it.

  10. I concur with hamster xpert...

Rather than newspaper or even printer paper (ink is bad and printer paper is too rough), you should use unbleached/untreated toilet paper (most of what you buy is untreated anyways, so dont worry too much... unless it's scented stuff).

Tear it up in shreds, and make sure its spread around fairly thickly and evenly. I always shred some up on top of my guys aspen chips... he loves it for his bedding (and the tube to play in too!).

Smart of you not to buy an incorect wood chip type. Aspen or nothing, other woods are bad for them. Forget Walmart, go to Petsmart or Petco.. they should have it.

Also, be advised that paper wont absorb waste like chips will... it will get messy faster and smell worse. So try not to go too long without the chips, unless you like cleaning cages every day.

    Good luck!

  11. No, because the animal would eat the paper
