If you were in college in the 1940s were you still drafted ????

& also did colleges shut down because there was not enough people going to them ? & if so what were there names

  1. College attendance was much less than now, only a minority went to colleges. Also schools were much smaller than now. And  no, enrollment was not grounds for deferral. Some occupations were classified as "critical" and those employed were exempt from the draft. The military sent many servicemen to college during the war, and they followed an accelerated curriculum, 2-3 years of study year-round. The service academies also had shortened, accelerated courses as well.
