I was at an Arbys and a man and pregnant woman came in. The man requested to work for food.

I would like your opinion on how the manager handled the situation.

  1. This is a tough one.  Personally, I do not give out handouts to people asking from money but food is another thing. I  think if I felt they were legitimate I would have told them that it was not Arby's policy to do that.  Instead I would have opened up my own wallet and purchased a meal for them.

How sad that society that wastes so much can not assist with those who need. Unfortunately, people are even reluctant to give left over food to soup kitchens as if there is a problem later, they are afraid of a lawsuit.  I was at my company holiday party. There was sooooo much food left over. I asked if the food was going to a place where needy people could use it and was told no for the above reason.

  2. He / She should apply for a job just like any other candidate and either get a job or not depending on qualifications.  People in search for employment should go to their career center, not a restaurant.  Restaurants are privately held businesses seeking a profit, not a charity center.

Churches are good places to go as well in time of need.  Since when is it expected that a business be expected to do charity work.  However, people should all be treated with respect even if that same treatment isn't returned.

  3. I'm guessing you folks live in a small town.

What they did is called a "hustle."

People PRETEND to be poor to get money or other items from you.

There are legitimate ways for them to get meals.

Imagine if he DID give them food, they (and many others) would be back numerous times to take advantage of his 1 time generosity. The manager did the correct thing by turning them away.

  4. I would boycott that restaurant. That was mean what the manager did. If anything, let the guy clean the parking lot, or something...

  5. Never- feeding the hungry people is not the manager's job-someone else in the society is responsible for it and apparently he is not doing his job properly. Restaurant is a business you pay and you will eat - if you feed the cat once it keeps coming back!

  6. This could possibly be a hustle or not. If this same situation happened with a hungry child I bet he would have been fed.

  7. If I was someone sitting in the store while this was going on i would have gotten up an bought them food that is just wrong and second of all the manager needs to be replaced because it doesn't matter who you are a poor man or a rich entrepreneur we are all human and all deserve respect.

  8. I don't doubt what happened. I live in chattanooga and was laid off from my job 4 months ago. I have applied at over 200 jobs in the area, had interviews, but no job. I had a great sales record at my past job and a college degree from a pretty reputable university, but my position was eliminated leaving me with nothing. I now hate this town and believe that there are some of the rudest and heartless people here. I would let the guy take out the trash and then give them a sandwich. I don't give out stuff to people, but when your willing to work for something, you should be given a chance.
