If you were me-where would you take your family to live in Australia?

Looking for hard core advice and truths about the country that we are infatuated with. I am a nurse and my husband is a residential builder. We have eight children (adopted and natural) plus a grown daughter and her husband that want to accompany us as we immigrate to Australia from the USA (they are seminary students).

If you could pick anyplace to live in Australia-why would you choose it? Schools, economics, future opportunities, beauty, crime, politics, convenience-where would you recommend? Our dream is to build affordable homes for families as a nonprofit organization. We are Christians and desire to build a church that loves to reach out to the community and meet real life needs (such as building affordable homes, adopting abandoned children, assisting the elderly, etc). Any cities that you see opportunity for a family like ours?

  1. I think for what you want to do and your description you might prefer Sydney. It certainly is beautiful and probably has the best future opportunities long term. Just a word of warning, Australians are generally not very religious, and will definately resent attempts to 'push' religion onto them. If you just want to help though that's fine!

  2. I would honestly say that it is probably best to contact the Head of your Church in Australia and perhaps he would be able to give you the best advice. Love to you and your family.

  3. Hi I would say Sydney! As their is lots of job opportunities. A good climate, awesome beaches, great schools, lots of churches and very convenient.

  4. In case if you're under the age of 45 years you might have chances. But you can't simply come over and say "hello, we're here. Give us a job, please".

You better go to www.government.com.au to find help.

And so should your grown up daughter with her husband do, too.

You can't simply come to a foreign country and build a church!

    Sounds weird to me.

  5. Can you get a visa to migrate? Best be certain about that before you consider the move as Australia can be a tough country to get residency in.

  6. I'm from Melbourne, so usually I'd highly recommend my area of the world- but when you mentioned your a nurse I thought 'nooo way'- nurses are the worst payed in Victoria.

I think the West coast would be best cause theres heaps of development going on there and nurses are payed very well... which would help u achieve your dream!
