I am trying to estimate the savings of turning off our copiers at work for at least 12 hours per day. If we saved 1400 watts of energy per 12 hours of shut off time, we save about $42.00 per machine. But in terms of energy, or watts savings what could I compare that to? Like say if we saved 1400 watts per day for one whole year how could I complete this sentence "511000 watts savings per 365 days in a year is enough energy to power _________ for _______ 365 days" or something like "thats enough energy to light a 1,200 square foot office building for ____ days or _____ hours, etc."

  1. 511000W over a year is enough to power 23 average household light bulbs for an entire year.

I am unsure how many square feet are covered by one light in an office building, but you could power 70 office lights for an entire year with that much power.  Find out how many feet 70 lights in your office cover and that will tell you the square footage you can light.

That is also enough power to run four average computers (without monitors) for a year, or enough to run 2-3 refrigerators for a year.

That can also power a full-size electric car (the converted ones not the urkel looking cars) for 1022-1533 miles.

  2. to power one 1000w kettle 511  hours over 365 days?
